The Student Cookbook From Need2Know Books Competition

Need2Know Books Student CookbookA little while ago I reviewed some of the books that are provided by Need2Know books.  This is a lovely range of books, if there is a subject you want to know something about it is definitely worth having a look here.  They have books about everything and they are really well laid out, factual and easy to read.  The lovely people at Need2Know have kindly offered me 2 copies of The Student Cookbook to give away on my blog.  This looks like a lovely book, it offers advice on healthy eating, cooking basics and store cupboard ideas as well as recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 1. Hmmm what to make, hang on ask the cook, the hubby. He says that Pork Schnitzel with an Austrian Potato Salad is a great ‘sharing’ meal as the salad can be made way in advance as its served chilled. The meat can be also prepared in advance and just takes 10 minutes to cook. So gives plenty of time to entertain, rather than being stuck in the kitchen.

  2. It would have to be something really basic, hence the need for cook books! I’m sure it would be a pleasant surprise to my partner if I could finally cook some nice meals!

I can make Pasta, with tuna, sweetcorn and mayonaise if this counts? I need to get out of the student meals now I’ve graduated.

  3. I used to love cooking a roast when I had visitors but then realised I was spending too much time in kitchen getting timings just right so now I prefer things like spag bol, chilli, lasagne that everyone likes and can help themselves to. Add lots of salad and lovely bread with fruit for afters and you can have a lovely home cooked simple and healthy meal.

  4. i would make a prawn and pineapple coctail, with lovely granary bread. a slowcooked beef with all the roast dinner trimmings including home made yorkshire puddings which would knock your socks off and then a lemon cheesecake with cream for afters x

  5. I would have to make something thats comforting and not to hard to make so I can concentrate on entertaining! Some griddled steak, sauteed potatoes and some asparagus on the side.

  6. Spaghetti bolognese because you can make it in one big pan, you can make it as spicy as you like , you can add beans and mushrooms and very few people don’t like it!

  7. I would make cider braised pork belly with mustard cabbage and apple mash, followed by my gooey chocolate fudge cake with strawberries. Cheap, cheerful and very delicious!

  8. I would make pan-fried scallops with parsnip puree, crispy pancetta and pistacio nuts to start followed by a nice beef wellington with a rich madeira sauce and green vegetables and a rhubarb syllabub to finish :)

  9. I would (and have) cooked Mocha Steak with Miso Steak Sauce, homemade chips and onions and watercress garnish. We had this valentines day iand it was amazing!

    @savvybunny

  10. A twist on the classic spaghetti bolognaise – Creamy Carbonara Tagiatelli – made with cream cheese, ham and spring onion. Yum Yum!

  11. STARTER
    my famous golden vegetable soup

    MAIN MEAL
My classic dish of Spag bol using homegrown ingredients such as tomatoes, peppers and herbs.
Served with a salad where all the ingredients are homegrown.
and homemade tomatoe and mushroom garlic bread

    DESSERT
    Homemade lemon cheesecake.

    CHOICE OF WINE
    Homemade cherry wine
    or
    Homemade sparkling white wine.

  12. Definitely a pasta dish, the easier the better I’m not great in the kitchen! Spaghetti Bolognese probably I can cope with that, with fresh salad and garlic bread :)

  13. I would make stew and dumplings , i have been making it for years and all my friends love it, they say i make the best dumplings

  14. we dont entertain very often, but in the summer it will be a bbq, plenty of choice for fussy eaters, and in the winter its a good old fashioned roast dinner

  15. I would go for nice big lasagna with a side salad and garlic bread. Would follow it up with a scrumptious Tiramissu or cheese and biscuits. There would also be free flowing red and white wine :) x

  16. Braised pork belly with dauphinoise potatoes, minted pea puree and madeira jus, followed by tarte au citron. Yummy (but hard work!!)

  17. If it me doing the cooking I woul be doing an Italian meal, possibly, lasagne, side salad, garlic bread and lots of red wine. If it was hubby we would get a typical british roast dinner with all the trimmings.

  18. Sausage cassarole with smooth fresh mash potatoe fresh vegetables of carrotts, brocolie and sweetcorn, followed by crumble either apple or rhubarb.

  19. When I’m entertaining it’s usually a spag bol! I’m lacking in kitchen know how I’m afraid. I’d love to learn new healthy recipes that are pretty simple to start me off – especially now I have a little one to think about :)

  20. I’d make jambalaya – it’s my favourite meal for serving a group as I can just fill up my wok with ingredients and simmer it for a while (well, there’s a little more to it than that, but you get the idea!)

  21. It depends who I was ‘entertaining’ :-) I regulalry have friends round for a DVd evening and we either have a huge bowl of pasta and some garlic bread or we have pizza. Italian carbs seem to be the theme here! If I’m feeding my Mum & Dad it tends to be more formal and I usually do a gammon roast for them because it’s the only meat I know how to cook!

  22. I do a gorgeous sticky salmon with egg fried rice. I got the recipe from a book about cooking or kids but grown ups love it too :)

  23. A Spanish-style one-pot dish of chorizo, tomatoes, garlic, green peppers, potato cubes and white beans, with lots of good crusty bread to mop up the juices…

  24. beer battered fish and chips is always a winner, as is my chilli concarne. but next time im entertaining i am doing a paella

  25. Hi

I would make chicken kievs from scratch, my bf taught me a great recipe and they are amazing, especially with nice organic chicken :)
