3 Healthier Hobbies To Pick Up This Summer
The summer is on its way, and the optimist in us all suggests it’s going to be a wonderful one. Of course, going in with that attitude makes the summer much more likely to be thoroughly enjoyable, so let’s start as we mean to go on, hey?
Perhaps we can take this good-natured fellow feeling and consider a few means by which we hope to spend our time. Doing so can inspire us to prepare, to invest in the right tools, and to learn how to try a new hobby in the first place.
Sure, many of us like lounging on the sofa and watching television, reading guides online (hello!) or partaking in any other creative pursuit, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’d like to be a little more summer-focused and spend more time outside, you could consider the following suggestions. If you do get involved, let us know how it goes:
Gentle Gardening
It’s easy to think if you’re not growing a prize-winning marrow or cultivating the most luscious flower display, you’re not doing it right. But putting it simply, gardening is just about making those minor, sustainable efforts that help you implement your vision into your garden. Pruning trees, pulling weeds, simply making a nice area for sitting under Louvre pergolas, it all counts. It also helps you get great exercise and can be thoroughly meditative.
Outdoor Photography
Outside of walking your dog or visiting local attractions, you might not think you have must “justifcation” to get into nature. Picking up a camera can be the perfect excuse to spend more time there. From watching the sunset in your local park to photographing local birds, this can be a beautiful means of experiencing the summer in all its glory, while also relaxing as you deserve to. You don’t need an expensive camera either, disposables bring an analogue charm, while smartphones are more than functional.
Tai Chi
Tai chi is an enjoyable practice of focusing on intentional body movements to create a sense of internal balance. It can be practiced by any age group and releases stress almost like nothing else, except for perhaps yoga. The worth of tai chi is that because it requires relatively little, you can do it in classes within local parks, follow a video when in your garden, or simply learn some movements in a class and practice them at home. With some relaxing music playing over speakers, you can get lost in the precise but gentle movements of the art, and feel a real sense of comfort and proactive care doing so. Moreover, you can share this with your relatives, both young and old. It’s hard to think of a more inclusive and wonderful art.
With this advice, you’re sure to pick up some healthier hobbies this summer. Of course these are just a few suggestions that help you get out there and active. You might also choose to pick up painting, or even enjoying barbecue after investing in a tasty grill at home. Either way, you’re sure to have a blast.
