What to take into account when choosing footwear?

When choosing footwear, it is essential to take into account the activity and frequency of the shoes. Therefore, the activity that takes place will be absolutely linked to the type of footwear to be worn. So, choosing the right pair is of utmost importance, as wearing the wrong one can lead to poor posture, back problems or foot issues. Certainly, fashion and style should not be a priority but the functionality of the footwear should be. A shoe may look very attractive but not meet the appropriate characteristics for the occasion or the person who uses them. The material with which it was made must be of quality and allow the foot to breathe, to prevent it from perspiring. Those that are made of leather are the most suitable, since they also do not cause discomfort or erode the skin. Certainly, avoid those that have internal seams, because when using them, they cause discomfort and can hurt the foot. The leather gives flexibility and adapts perfectly to the anatomy of the foot.

Another issue to take into account is the type of terrain that will be covered, since there are special shoes on the market that adapt perfectly to different paths. Certainly, if you are going to hike in the mountains, the ideal shoe is one that has grip on the different uneven trails. Flat shoes or “sneakers” are not recommended at all for hiking, as they do not hold the foot in the correct way. Did you know that shoes that aren’t just right can cause back problems? This is because of weight distribution and the possibility of having to hold the shoe in and grip, which causes muscular issues.

Are heels bad for me?

Very high heels are not recommended either, since they cause discomfort when walking because they do not respect the natural shape of the feet. This can constrict your foot over time, causing bunions and other issues. When worn for short periods however, they are just fine but be sure that they do not rub or cause any type of pain when wearing. We all like to wear heels sometimes, but we must also respect our anatomy and be sensible with the types of shoes we wear.

Here are some tips that should assist you with your next purchase:

Don’t focus on the size

The first thing we must take into account when choosing a shoe is that the size is appropriate. Many doctors point out that this is a mistake. The most important thing is that your foot feels comfortable and this will depend on the shape of the shoe and the specific model. The footwear must adapt to the foot, never the other way around.

At night is better

It is advisable to try on new footwear at night, as this is when the feet have accumulated some fluids due to all the activity of the day. Therefore the next morning they will feel much lighter. Also “breaking in” shoes is good, which essentially means walking around the house in them for a few days to get used to the fit. It’s an old tip but a good one!

Be careful with heels

This goes for women who love to wear extremely high heels. Experts indicate that the ideal heel should be between four to five centimeters, otherwise you will present problems in the knee and feet. Even if you want additional height, beware of the possible problems.

Quality first

Only quality footwear will present you with a flexible sole of the appropriate thickness that will give you support. Unfortunately, there is nothing worse than walking down the street with shoes that squeeze our feet. It’s time to get savvy.
