Making Your Home Cosy At Christmas

Home and Garden

Christmas is finally here, and over the next few weeks all of us around the world will be getting ready for a celebration to put a positive spin on an otherwise rubbish year.

As always, getting the house ready for the festive season is a fun thing to do, and you can spend hours making your home feel festive as well as cosy for the winter season. Whether it is overtly hanging Christmas decorations such as baubles and tinsel around the house, or adding those winter touches that bring a warming feel to the space; this time of year is a brilliant time for interior design.

Have fun this month and transform your home into a warm wonderland with these ideas.

Festive artwork

If you want to bring some wonderful colour and fun to your festive home this Christmas, why not buy a piece of artwork and hang it on the wall for the season? When decorating the house for different seasons not a lot of us consider changing artwork – but we can actually make a huge difference to the house by changing the art on the walls every season to match the theme.

Put logs on the fire

Whether you have a log burner or a traditional fireplace in your home; one great winter decoration is a pile of logs by the fire. Logs will not only bring a sense of cosiness and warmth to the space but they bring an earthy smell that is perfect for the season.

Comfortable blankets

What is the most satisfying part of being at home in winter? Snuggling up under a throw or blanket on the sofa and watching festive movies! There are some amazing blankets you can purchase for your home for winter, and you can layer them over the sofas and beds for an extra layer of comfort and warmth. Either choose simple neutrals to keep it simple or go all out with a bright red or tartan print. There are lots of brilliant ways to use blankets for design, and you can create a cosy home easily with them this year.

Homemade candles

Candles have to be the ultimate way to make a home feel warm and cosy in winter. A lit candle in your living room gives off a warm orange glow as well as heat to make your living space warm and comfortable. You can make your own candles easily with leftover wax and wicks off amazon. All you need to do is melt wax in a pan and pour into into your chosen vessel-  add a wick and let it dry!

A snug rug

There’s nothing better than adding a beautiful rug on top of your wooden floor or carpet in winter. When the weather is cold we need as much help staying warm as we can, and on this website you’ll find rugs to make any home feel warmer during the winter season.

Fairy lights

Fairy lights are magical – and they are beautiful decorations to bring into your festive home. It is a brilliant idea to hang fairy lights in prominent areas of your home such as in the mantlepiece, in door arches, on mirrors, or on the stairs.

A bright coloured mirror

One of the simple DIY jobs you can do this winter to bring some fun to your home is to gloss paint the frame of your mirror with a bold colour such as green or red. These gloss paints can be found at any hardware store and they will make a massive impact to your living space. It’s a great way to upcycle and change an old piece of furniture to bring it back to life.

A tasteful wine rack

When decorating a home for the festive season, it is a great idea to start displaying your wine on a stunning rack in the living room or dining room. A classy wine rack can be a lovely interior feature of the home and can add a little touch of class to your space. Plus, it makes for easy refills when you have guests over!

A divan bed

If you have had the same old wooden framed bed for a long time now; it is time to upgrade to something more modern and impressive. A divan bed is a stunning choice because it brings with it under bed storage which can de clutter your bedroom and make it look more spacious.

There are so many amazing ways to decorate your home for winter – try some of these ideas and more this month!
