Top Interior Design Styles To Consider For Your Home

Home and Garden

Open plan liviing room and kitchen

According to research from Household Quotes, Brits spend about £321.71 on their interior design every year. Interior design is crucial because it can transform your bland space into something more exquisite. Nowadays, you don’t even need a professional interior designer to help you create a stylish home since you can rely solely on the internet. However, it is best to know the various interior design styles to choose one which works well for your available space. Below are some top interior design styles worth considering for your home.

1. Eclectic

The eclectic design is one of the most misunderstood interior decor styles. However, you can readily identify this decor type if you know the few key features to look out for. It is best to think of the eclectic design styles as a high-energy collection of meticulously selected pieces assembled to produce a culture-rich interior space. Therefore, it isn’t uncommon to see decor from different periods and cultures in an eclectic interior. For instance, an eclectic living room can have a Maneki Neko figurine, one of the most recognisable symbols of Japanese culture, just below a lightsaber wall decor. Interior designers advise selecting a few accent colours and going with a neutral colour palette when choosing the eclectic style to balance texture and colour.

2. Bohemian

You can sense a change in the environment and culture immediately after entering a home with a Bohemian interior. The entire ambience feels very nomadic, with numerous trinkets displayed from travels. Compared to many other design styles, order isn’t a priority in a Bohemian interior design. Therefore, there are very few rules governing mixing patterns and colours. Metallic accents, animal hides, and luxurious woods are dominant in many modern Bohemian styles. A Bohemian style is a great option if you are a free spirit open to giving your interior an unconventional and unique personality.

3. Minimalist

A British Heart Foundation (BHF) survey revealed that more than 84% of Brits have unused household clutter that could be donated to charity shops. If you fall within this demographic but want to adopt the minimalist style, be prepared to send these unused items to the charity shops. This style advocates that less is more and prioritises clean lines, easy forms, and simple finishes. Also, it involves using geometric shapes and two basic colours at most. Storage space is also key in minimalist interiors, so furniture typically doubles as hidden storage. Additionally, the minimalist style demands a lot of large space, huge windows, and natural materials like textured wood and natural stone. Finally, there are no spiralled patterns in a minimalist design, and random items are conspicuously absent.

4. Contemporary

The contemporary style involves the deliberate use of lines and textures to emphasise subtle sophistication. It is perhaps the most ever-evolving design style in existence. Contemporary design embraces anything of the present but does not hesitate to borrow from different periods to create a timeless environment. Furthermore, it is sleek and simple and uses different features like open layouts and detailed wall mouldings to create a unique and interesting space. Additionally, you will likely see glass and metal in this interior design style due to their reflective abilities. You can go with this style if you want a modern interior in a home with high ceilings and bare windows. However, avoid using any wallpapers or floral linens in a contemporary design.

5. Mid-century modern style

The mid-century modern interior design style is a classic that remains relevant irrespective of the decade. It originated in post-war America when the design industry attempted to explore more modern ideas. Mid-century modern interiors have a seamless and casual flow. They encourage indoor-outdoor living, so you will likely see picture windows and sliding doors left bare to embrace nature. Furthermore, this interior style has many luxurious kinds of wood like teak and rosewood. Finally, it contains numerous iconic furniture pieces like the egg chair and Eames lounger.

6. Hollywood glam

Hollywood glam is a chic style that many people are very attracted to due to the popularity of Hollywood stars and shows. Fundamentally, it is a luxurious style that goes over the top, so it is perfect if you want your interior to make a bold statement. It has many high contrast colour schemes, including black and white and hot green and pink. Furthermore, stunning chandeliers and mirrored furniture are a common combination you will see in Hollywood glam interiors. Many interior designers recommend using several polished metals in your home and investing in velvety-textured furnishings if you opt for a Hollywood glam interior. Also, hang striking pieces on your wall instead of settling for simple decors.

6. Country-style

Country-style interiors are widely known for their simple and rural charm. It is often used by homeowners seeking to maintain their customs and traditions. Country-style interiors are full of natural materials like stone and wood and rough surfaces. Interior designers recommend concealing any modern appliances if you opt for this design style to preserve its rustic charm. Also, avoid using numerous contrasting tones and colours when you opt for this style.

7. Traditional

The traditional style is one of the most well-known interior design types. This interior is inspired by 18th and 19th century England and France. As such, it is common to notice expensive textiles like linen and silk seemingly everywhere in these interiors. Additionally, the fabrics found in this interior have many popular patterns like stripes, florals, plaids, and damask. Also, numerous traditional interiors maintain a neutral colour palette. Consistency is key in traditional interiors, so matching furniture sets are quite common. As such, it may be a design style to avoid if you are not big on colour coordination.

8. Modern farmhouse design

Modern farmhouse interiors share numerous characteristics with the traditional farmhouse design. This decorating style incorporates open concept living, wide plank floors, and shiny light. Also, contrast is a key aspect of this design, so you will see a lot of metals being mixed as a result. What’s more, the modern farmhouse style takes nature seriously, so greenery and raw wood elements are common in every room. Therefore, this interior’s colour palettes are mostly neutral.
