Zero Water Filter Jug Review
If you want to drink more tap water but are not keen on the taste the Zero Water Filter Jug may be for you. Its gravity-fed filtration system removes impurities from tap water making it as good as bottled purified water.

I am always trying to drink more water as I know it is good for my health. A lack of water can cause headaches, stress and lack of sleep. I must admit I will usually reach for a can of pop or dilute orange instead of water. I am not that keen on the taste of tap water and apparently, it contains microplastics, which is not good.
Bottled water is an alternative but it can end up being pricy. It also creates more plastic waste.
Recently Zero Water got in touch and offered us the chance to try out one of their water filter jugs. This removes as much as 99.6% of all toxins from tap water. The list of possible contaminants is quite scary, chlorine, aluminium, plastic particles, mercury, lead, arsenic (eek) ….
What’s in the Box?
In the box, you get the jug, the zero water filter and a TDS meter. There is also a leaflet which explains how the jug works and what the readings on the TDS meter mean.

To set the jug up simply screen the filter into the filter shelf and then pop the lid on. Fill the jug up at the top and the water will slowly drip through the filter and into the jug.

This jug is rather heavy when full but the dispensing button on the back allows you to pour water out without lifting the jug.
How Does the Zero Water Filter Jug Work?
The ZeroWater Filter jug uses a five-stage filtration system to create pure water. It is the only filtering system that reaches the FDA requirement for the TDS level in PURIFIED bottled water and is also certified by the NSF to reduce lead.

When the water enters the filter it goes first through a course filter screen that removes dust and impurities. It then goes through a foam distributer that removes any suspended solids that are left.
The third filter layer is a multilayer carbon and oxidation reduction alloy that removes organic contaminants and stops bacteria from growing. Level four is an ion exchange resin that removes inorganic compounds and finally, an ultrafine screen removes anything remaining.
What Does the TDS Meter Show?
A TDS meter measures the Total Dissolved Solids in the water. When water falls as rain it will dissolve some of the minerals naturally present in rocks, like calcium, magnesium and sodium. If you live in a hard water area you will have a higher reading as the water has more of these dissolved solids.
Typically a reading of between 100 and 200 is considered good, but under 100 should be aimed for. As you can see my water is 121.

After putting the water through the Zero Water filter jug the reading was zero. All the dissolved solids had been removed.
What Does the Water Taste Like?
The water tastes like, water! It is much cleaner-tasting water with no hint of chlorine taste. My son loves it and demands any water he drinks comes from the jug.
How Long Does a Zero Water Filter Last?
The replacement cartridges will last around 3-4 weeks, depending how much you use the jug. When they need replacing the water will no longer have a TDS of zero and can start to taste bitter.
The replacement cartridges are quite expensive so it is worth looking for bulk-buy deals which work out cheaper over time. You can get a £5 off voucher if you submit your water quality reading on the website.
Where Can I Buy a Zero Water Filter Jug?
The jugs are available on the Zerowater website. The jug we were sent to review is a 12-cup filter worth £39.99 but varying different sizes (smaller and larger) are available.
