Christmas gifts a foodie will love
Jujube Fruits and hickory nuts
If you are looking for a unique snack this Christmas jujube fruits and hickory nuts could be just the thing. Jujube fruit is a red coloured berry which comes from the buckthorn family. It is often known as the red date. While it is new to the UK people in the Far East have been using it for thousands of years to promote health and well being. It tastes very similar to a date and is quite delicious. They are available as whole fruit, stuffed with almonds, walnuts or cashew or sliced into crisps.
Hickory nuts come from the hickory tree which is found in North America and South-East Asia. They have a lovely rich taste which is similar to butterscotch. They also won the Great Taste Award. As well as being tasty they are a good source of manganese. This helps form connective tissues, maintains strong bones and helps protect cells from antioxidants.
These products are available in gift jars (£12.99) from www.abakusfoods.com. You can also buy the smaller packs at Ocado, Grape Tree, Wholefoods and Revital.
